“Since this is my first message in “The Florida Patriot” to the members of the Florida Society, Sons of the American Revolution I want each of you to know that I consider it a great honor and privilege to be President of this great society. The reputation of our society is well known and well deserved. Together we can and will continue to build upon that legacy of excellence.
We have assembled a great leadership team for 2006-2007! As we work together to accomplish the goals and objectives of the Florida Society and the National Society, over the next twelve months, it is my sincere belief that the Florida Society will make significant strides at both the state and national level.
Our plans for erecting the State of Florida Historical Marker to commemorate “The Last Naval Battle of the American Revolutionary War” are on track. As many of you already know, the Commemorative Historical Sites Committee plans to conduct the first annual commemorative ceremony on March 10, 2007 in Jetty Park at Cape Canaveral to commemorate that Revolutionary War Naval Battle. Compatriot Ben DuBose has contributed immensely to the planning for the upcoming 2007 ceremony at Cape Canaveral. A copy of Resolution 2006-02 which gives the Florida Society permission to place the historical marker at Jetty Park in Cape Canaveral, Florida is printed on the second page of this issue of “The Florida Patriot.” Compatriot Ed Young and I also visited the site of the Revolutionary War “Battle of Pensacola” in Pensacola, Florida on May 12, 2006, and plans are already under way to place a State of Florida Historical Marker at that site, as well.
The wave of emails, faxes and phone calls over the past several weeks between our state officers, committee chairmen and other fellow compatriots will redound to the benefit of our society as we endeavor to communicate more effectively in accomplishing our goals and objectives. I am confident that we will have many positive reports at our upcoming BOM meeting on August 25-26, 2006 in Kissimmee, Florida.
Lastly, allow me to encourage each chapter to have attendees at each of our upcoming BOM meetings. This coming year can be one of the most successful in our society’s history, but we need each chapter’s participation as we march forward in 2006-2007!!” Sincerely,
Lindsey C. Brock
